Why people look for Lucky Orange alternatives

Lucky Orange has been on the Shopify App Store since 2014 and holds 4.6 from 899 reviews (Shopify App Store). It does a lot for little money. People still leave, for four reasons.

  • A free tool covers the core. A store in Australia, 3 stars, October 2026: "I use Microsoft Clarity, which offers similar features for free. I'm not really sure why I need to pay so much for this app" (reviews).
  • The small plans fill up. Launch is 500 sessions a month. One reviewer on the basic plan said that past its limit "it stops recording and shows an error saying the storage is full" (reviews). Storage starts at 60 days, and 90, 180 or 365 days cost extra (pricing).
  • Recording complaints. Two 1-star reviews from September and October 2026 call replays "choppy" and say "lots of recordings don't work" (reviews). Whatever you switch to, trial it on your own theme first.
  • The AI stays in Lucky Orange. Discovery AI is an add-on on paid plans. Since August 2026, Shopify Sidekick can query it through an app extension (Lucky Orange blog). We found no MCP, so Claude or Cursor can't read Lucky Orange data.

In the Shopify app, Discovery AI adds $5, $10 or $20 a month on Launch, Build and Grow, and comes free on the free plan. On the direct plans it's listed as an add-on with no price shown. Every plan gets every other feature (pricing).

So before you switch, list the parts you open every week. Replace those and stop paying for the rest.

The 6 best Lucky Orange alternatives

1. Anry: for when your visitors come from ads and don't buy

Lucky Orange shows you what visitors did. Anry starts one step earlier, at the ad click. It follows each Meta or Google click into the visit and on to the order, finds where paying visitors drop (a page, a device, an ad aimed at the wrong crowd) and prices each leak in your store's own orders rather than in what the ad platform claims. Code does the detecting and the pricing, the same way every time. An LLM only writes the explanation and the suggested fix. Anry has session replays and can generate a heatmap of a page, so you still watch the visits.

The bigger difference from Discovery AI is where you ask. Anry has no dashboard to learn. It is a remote MCP server whose 16 tools only read, behind an OAuth 2.1 sign-in (MCP docs). You ask in Claude, Claude Code or Cursor, next to your other tools, and the fix goes to your own agent ("Ask Anry").

Here's what that join showed on our own account. On 19 October we launched a test of 7 Meta ads. On day one, the cost per visitor who stayed 5 seconds or more ran from A$4.47 for the best ad to A$21.90 for the worst. Meta's dashboard doesn't show that number. It only exists once each ad is joined to the visits it bought. Recordings can be filtered by campaign, but they can't tell you what each visitor cost, so they can't tell you which ad to cut.

  • Best for: Shopify, WooCommerce and PrestaShop stores where most traffic is paid Meta or Google. Agencies too: one login covers every store.
  • Price: one plan with every feature, billed monthly, with a free trial and no card (pricing). It costs more than Lucky Orange's smaller plans.
  • The catch: no live chat, surveys or announcements. If you use those, pair Anry with Shopify Inbox (below) or keep Lucky Orange for them.

2. Microsoft Clarity: recordings and heatmaps for $0

The reviewer above named it for a reason. Clarity records sessions and draws click, scroll and conversion maps for free, with no traffic limit and no sampling (Clarity FAQ). Its Shopify app is rated 4.6 from 2,396 reviews and connects Google Ads and Microsoft Ads (Shopify App Store).

  • Best for: stores that mostly watched recordings and heatmaps in Lucky Orange.
  • Price: free.
  • The catch: replays are kept 30 days, against Lucky Orange's 60-day base (data retention). No live chat or surveys. The official MCP gets 10 requests per project a day (Microsoft Learn). How it compares with Hotjar's successor is in Hotjar vs Microsoft Clarity.

3. MIDA: more sessions per dollar, still a Shopify app

MIDA is a Shopify-only recording and heatmap app, rated 4.9 from 611 reviews (Shopify App Store). Session price is where it beats Lucky Orange: Growth gives 15,000 sessions for $24.90 a month, where Lucky Orange's Grow is $89 for 10,000 in the Shopify app. Growth also adds revenue click tracking and conversion heatmaps, which Lucky Orange doesn't list.

  • Best for: Shopify stores that liked having recordings inside a Shopify app and want more of them for the money.
  • Price: free for 250 sessions, then $9.90 (5,000), $24.90 (15,000) and $44.90 (40,000, with API export and an MCP integration). 7-day trial on paid plans.
  • The catch: chat and surveys aren't on its plan list, and the AI assistant is $5 to $15 extra. Checkout heatmaps on any Shopify app need Shopify Plus, the same rule Lucky Orange works under. Our Shopify heatmap comparison explains why.

4. Contentsquare: where the Lucky Orange vs Hotjar question ends up

Lucky Orange vs Hotjar was the classic comparison. Hotjar no longer takes new accounts and sends new users to Contentsquare (Contentsquare). Every Contentsquare plan has replays, heatmaps, funnels and surveys, which covers most of Lucky Orange minus the chat.

  • Best for: stores that run on-site surveys and want a much bigger free plan.
  • Price: free up to 200k sessions a month with 1 month of data. Growth from $39 a month billed yearly ($49 monthly) with 13 months of data (pricing). Through its Shopify app, Growth is $49 for 7k sessions and $69 for 10k (Shopify App Store).
  • The catch: replays are sampled: 5% of sessions on Free (max 10k), 15% on Growth. MCP calls are capped at 300 a month on Free. If the Hotjar move is why you're here, Hotjar alternatives has the migration details.

5. Mouseflow: for funnels and forms

Mouseflow is built around funnels, form analytics and friction detection, with an AI called Mina from Essential up (Mouseflow pricing).

  • Best for: stores whose leak is a form or a multi-step flow.
  • Price: free for 500 sessions a month. Billed yearly, Essential is $25 (5,000 sessions), Advanced $109 (25,000) and Premium $319 (100,000). Billed monthly, those are $39, $149 and $399. 14-day trial with no card.
  • The catch: features are split by plan, unlike Lucky Orange. Surveys start on Advanced. Form analytics and the MCP are Premium only. When you run out of sessions, "all tracking will stop until your next refill date".

6. Shopify Inbox: the live chat, free

None of the recording tools above has live chat. Shopify's own Inbox is free and rated 4.6 from 5,806 reviews. You can run it with or without an AI sales associate that answers from your catalog and policies (Shopify App Store).

  • Best for: any Shopify store that used Lucky Orange's chat for pre-sale questions.
  • Price: free.
  • The catch: it's only chat. Lucky Orange shows the visitor's session next to the conversation (Lucky Orange). With Inbox, the recording lives in another app.

When Lucky Orange is still the better choice

Stay if you use three or more of its parts. Recordings, heatmaps, funnels, form analytics, surveys, announcements and live chat in one app, every feature on every plan, is hard to rebuild for $39 to $89 a month. Stay if you're on Shopify Plus and want heatmaps and recordings of the checkout itself, which Lucky Orange has offered since 2024 (Lucky Orange blog). And stay if your team already asks Shopify Sidekick about the store. Discovery AI answers there now, with no second login.

How to choose

  • You only watched recordings: Clarity, free. MIDA if you want them in a Shopify app with more sessions per dollar.
  • You ran surveys: Contentsquare, or Mouseflow from Advanced.
  • You used chat: Shopify Inbox, next to whichever recording tool you pick.
  • Most of your traffic is paid: Anry, to see which ad sends the visitors who leave and what that costs, with replays to watch them. Add Inbox if you need chat.
  • You want an AI agent to read the data: Anry on every plan. Clarity and Contentsquare on tight free quotas. MIDA from $44.90, Mouseflow from Premium. Heatmap.com keeps its MCP for its $699 Scale plan, covered in Heatmap.com alternatives.

Where Anry fits

Anry replaces the part of Lucky Orange that tries to explain why visitors leave, for stores that pay for their traffic. It ties each Meta or Google ad to the visit and the order, prices the leak, and hands the fix to your agent. It doesn't replace chat, surveys or announcements. If your traffic is mostly organic and you're happy reading recordings yourself, Clarity is enough and you don't need Anry.

Frequently asked questions

What's the best free Lucky Orange alternative?

Microsoft Clarity, for recordings and heatmaps with no traffic limit. Add Shopify Inbox, also free, if you used Lucky Orange's live chat.

Is Lucky Orange better than Hotjar?

Hotjar no longer accepts new accounts, so the real comparison is Lucky Orange vs Contentsquare. Lucky Orange has live chat, announcements and every feature on every plan. Contentsquare's free plan is far bigger (200k sessions a month against 100 in Lucky Orange's Shopify app), but it samples replays and keeps 1 month of data.

How much does Lucky Orange cost?

In the Shopify app it's free for 100 sessions a month, then $19, $39 and $89. Bought directly and billed yearly, Build is $32 a month, Grow $72, Expand $199 and Scale $839, with a 7-day trial. Discovery AI is an add-on.

Does Lucky Orange have an MCP server?

We couldn't find one in October 2026. Its AI, Discovery, works inside Lucky Orange and, since August 2026, inside Shopify Sidekick.

Can Lucky Orange track the Shopify checkout?

Yes, on Shopify Plus. Since May 2024, Plus stores can use its heatmaps and recordings on checkout pages. On other plans, Shopify limits heatmap apps to checkout events rather than the pages themselves.

Is Lucky Orange worth it in 2026?

Yes, if you use the bundle: recordings, heatmaps, surveys and chat for one price. If you only watch recordings, Clarity does that for free.
