| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is it? | The Shopify connector for Claude, an MCP connector in Claude's directory |
| Who makes it? | Shopify. Listed in Claude's directory since April 2026 |
| Works in | Claude (web and desktop) and Claude Code. Cursor gets Shopify's AI Toolkit plugin |
| Read or write? | Both. Orders, customers and analytics are read-only. Products, inventory, collections and discounts can be changed |
| Cost | No extra Shopify fee. You pay your Shopify plan and your Claude plan |
| What it can't see | Your Meta and Google ad spend, and what visitors do on your pages |
What the Shopify connector does
Shopify built it so you can "create or manage a Shopify store without leaving your chat" (Shopify Help). You install it from Claude, not the App Store. Claude's directory lists 25 tools (Claude). For a store you already run:
| Area | What it can do | Read or write |
|---|---|---|
| Orders | Recent orders with customer, totals, payment and fulfillment status | Read-only |
| Analytics | Answer questions about sales, orders, products, customers and fulfillment, as tables and charts | Read-only |
| Customers | Search customers, see order count and total spend | Read-only |
| Products | Create and edit products, change status for up to 50 at once | Write |
| Inventory | Check and set stock across locations | Write |
| Collections and discounts | Create collections, create percentage-off discount codes | Write |
| Themes | Edit an unpublished theme only | Write |
Some things are blocked whatever you approve: refunds, cancelling or capturing orders, marking them paid, returns, gift cards, your live theme, and your plan, payments, taxes or domains (Shopify Help).
Which "Shopify MCP" is which
Search "shopify mcp" and you'll find five different things:
| Name | Who it's for | Reads your orders and sales? |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify connector for Claude | Merchants, in Claude | Yes |
| Shopify AI Toolkit (and Dev MCP) | Developers, in Claude Code, Cursor, Codex | Docs and schemas. Store data only through Shopify CLI, with your approval |
| Storefront Catalog MCP | Shopping agents, on behalf of buyers | No, only your public catalog (Shopify.dev) |
| Customer Accounts MCP | A logged-in customer's own orders and returns | No, one customer's data (Shopify.dev) |
| Sidekick | You, inside Shopify admin | Yes, but it lives in Shopify, not in Claude |
Guides that point Claude at yourstore.com/api/mcp are out of date. Shopify removed those catalog and cart tools (Shopify.dev), and they never read sales anyway.
Before you start
- A Shopify store you own, and a Claude account. Directory connectors work on every Claude plan (Claude Help).
- Set it up from a desktop browser, as Shopify recommends.
- On Claude Team or Enterprise, an Owner has to enable connectors for the organization first.
- The tool can only do what your Shopify user can do. If your staff account can't edit products, Claude can't either (Shopify Help).
Set it up in Claude
- In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, and click "+" next to Connectors to browse the directory.
- Find Shopify (or open claude.ai/directory/connectors/shopify) and click Connect.
- Claude sends you to your Shopify admin. Read the access it asks for, then approve it.
- Back in Claude, set each tool to Always allow, Needs approval or Blocked. Leave the write tools on Needs approval.
- In a new chat, open "+", then Connectors, and switch Shopify on. Mention "Shopify" in your first question.
If Claude later asks for more access than you approved, Shopify prompts you to authorize the increase. To reduce access, you uninstall the integration and connect again.
Claude Code
If you log in to Claude Code with your Claude account, connectors you added in Claude are already there (Claude Code docs). Run this inside Claude Code:
/mcp
Shopify shows up under the claude.ai section. For building on Shopify (themes, apps, custom queries), install Shopify's AI Toolkit plugin (Shopify.dev):
claude plugin install shopify-ai-toolkit@claude-plugins-official
It reaches store data through Shopify CLI, with the scopes you choose, and changes are off unless a command runs with --allow-mutations (Shopify CLI). It sends usage telemetry by default (opt-out).
Cursor
In Cursor Chat, run /add-plugin shopify to install the same AI Toolkit.
What to ask once it's connected
- "What were my total sales, orders and average order value last month, compared with the month before?"
- "Which 10 products made the most revenue in the last 30 days?"
- "Which products sold the most units this week, and how much stock is left?"
- "Show my unfulfilled orders older than three days."
- "Which customers have ordered more than three times? Show their total spend."
What it can't answer on its own
Everything the connector sees is inside Shopify. None of its tools reads your Meta or Google ad accounts, so it can't say what an ad cost or which ad sent which visitors to which page. And it can't see what people do on the page: scroll, tap, or leave after a second.
We hit this on our own site: a Meta campaign that looked cheap, where about 98% of the visits never scrolled or tapped anything. The store side only saw traffic and no orders (the full story).
Anry is the piece that joins the two. It follows each ad click to the visit and the order, finds where money leaks (a page, a device, an ad sending the wrong people), and prices each leak in your store's own orders. Add it next to Shopify in Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http anry https://mcp.anry.io/mcp
In Claude, add a custom connector with https://mcp.anry.io/mcp. These are the 16 tools your agent gets, all read-only (Anry docs):
| Tool | What it returns |
|---|---|
list_sites | The stores your login can see. One login covers every store |
get_site_status | Whether tracking, the store and each ad account are connected and sending data |
get_analytics_overview | Visitors, bounce rate, revenue and conversion rate, with top pages and sources |
get_top_pages | Per-page visitors, revenue and conversion rate |
get_traffic_sources | Visitors, conversions and revenue per source or UTM campaign |
get_campaign_spend | Meta and Google spend per campaign or ad, next to the revenue it brought on the site |
get_paid_waste_summary | Ad spend leaking on smaller ads, summed across the account |
get_revenue_leaks | Revenue at risk per week and month, and the top leaks to fix first |
get_issue | The full evidence for one leak: device, source and path breakdowns |
list_opportunities | The findings on your dashboard right now |
get_report | The full report for one finding, with the suggested fix |
list_reports | Every report the site has had, including archived ones |
list_questions | The questions you asked Anry to keep answering |
list_sessions | Visitor sessions, filterable by page, source, campaign or ad |
get_session | The click-by-click journey of one session |
get_heatmap_summary | How far people scroll on a page and what they click |
Shopify connector vs Anry vs a CSV export
| Shopify connector | Anry MCP | CSV export into Claude | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orders, products, customers | Yes, live | Orders, to price each leak | A snapshot |
| Meta and Google ad spend | No | Yes, per campaign and per ad | Only if you export it too |
| What visitors do on the page | No | Yes | No |
| Changes your store | Yes, if you approve write access | No, read-only | No |
| Cost | Free with Shopify | From $99/month | Free |
Prices checked October 2026.
If you want to run your store from a chat (add products, check stock, look up orders), Shopify's connector is all you need. Add Anry when the question is why the traffic you pay for doesn't turn into orders.
Is it safe?
It's the official route, over OAuth: no password or API key changes hands. You see the access before you approve it, it can't go beyond your own staff permissions, and Shopify blocks the riskiest actions (refunds, cancellations, payments, live theme) (Shopify Help).
Two things are on you. Shopify says AI outputs can contain errors and you're responsible for the changes. And data that reaches Claude is under Anthropic's terms, not Shopify's. Keep write tools on Needs approval. To revoke, uninstall the integration in your Shopify admin and disconnect it in Claude. More in Is it safe to connect AI to your Shopify store?
Common errors and the fix
| Problem | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Claude gives general Shopify advice instead of your data | The connector isn't reaching your store in this chat | Switch Shopify on in "+", then Connectors, and say "Shopify" in the question |
| It still talks about your old store after you switched | The chat kept the old connection | Start a new conversation |
| A bulk change stopped halfway | It changes items one at a time, so big batches can stop partway | Finish the rest in Shopify admin |
| It won't edit your live theme | Live themes are blocked | Duplicate the theme, let Claude edit the copy, publish it yourself |
Shopify doesn't appear in Claude Code's /mcp | Claude Code isn't using your Claude login, for example an API key is set | Run /status, then /login with your Claude account |
You added setup.shopify.com/mcp by hand | Shopify says it doesn't approve arbitrary clients on that endpoint (Shopify) | Use the directory connector, or the AI Toolkit plugin |
Where Anry fits
Shopify's connector tells you what happened in your store. Anry tells you where money leaks between the ad and the order, and what each leak costs. It's read-only, and the fix goes to your own agent for you to approve. If you don't run paid ads yet, you don't need it.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an official Shopify connector for Claude?
Yes. Shopify makes it and lists it in Claude's directory. You install it from Claude, approve it in your Shopify admin, and pay no extra Shopify fee.
What is the Shopify MCP server URL?
The connector runs on https://setup.shopify.com/mcp, but Shopify only approves its official integrations there. Connect through Claude's directory rather than adding the URL yourself.
Can Claude see my Shopify orders?
Yes, with the connector. It lists recent orders with customer, totals, payment and fulfillment status, 50 at a time. Orders are read-only: it can't refund, cancel or mark them as paid.
Is the Shopify connector the same as Sidekick?
No. Sidekick is the AI assistant inside your Shopify admin. The connector brings your store into Claude, and Shopify says it doesn't replace Sidekick.
Can I connect more than one store?
One store at a time, and you can switch between stores you own from the chat. Anry works the other way round: one login covers every store, which suits agencies.
